Children learn to read in Kindergarten through third grade and read to learn in grades four and above. The Literacy Coalition has partnered with the School District of Palm Beach County for the past 11+ years to help remedy this lack of reading skills. Volunteers are recruited, trained and supported to tutor these struggling readers.

Tutor two to three first or second grade students, one-on-one, in reading comprehension at selected schools throughout Palm Beach County. Tutoring occurs during regular school hours. Hours vary by school location. Volunteers are asked to commit to two tutor sessions per week, 60–90-minute sessions (or team up with another volunteer and each one tutors one session per week).
There is a minimum of 30 tutoring sessions per student in a school year.
